5K & 10K Summer Races + Do You Need Rest Days?

I admit: summer is my favorite. Long days and warm sun tempt us runners and cyclists into calling in “sick” for lengthy adventures outside. Plan now to honor the upcoming summer solstice and 4th of July with a couple weekends of racing and celebrating the season!

Hopefully we all got a chance to celebrate Global Running Day last week! Not long ago running was not exactly a widespread activity enjoyed by the masses. It wasn’t until the 1970s that running became popular outside of serious racing. After winning gold at the 1972 Olympic marathon, Frank Shorter brought attention to our sport and invited casual athletes to start running “for the joy, camaraderie, and health of it.”
